Different Formats of DVD Recording

DVD recording is the specialized process of recording video onto blank writeable DVD media. Data is usually stored on either installable drives for computers or as standalone components that can be used in studios or home theatre systems. DVD recording can be done in the following formats:

DVD-R for general and authoring use:
DVD-R is generally a popular CD-R format. Mainly, DVD-R for general use is used for simple features while DVD-R for authoring use can be used for more professional features. DVD-R for authoring use comes with privacy protection and duplication features.

DVD-RAM
This is quite different from DVD-R format. It is a kind of sector based disc that can be used with the desktop of a PC while inserted into a drive. DVD-RAM can be inserted into DVD-ROM to read the content of the disc.

DVD-RW
It is one of the most known DVD formats available in the market these days. It is supportive and is preferred by most users.

DVD+RW
It is one of the newest formats available and usually considered as not very supportive by the DVD forum, the accredited body that sets the standards for DVD. However, major electronics and computer manufacturers support DVD+RW format.
